This was my entry for the TMUnderground ‘Without Words’ short movie contest. The theme was to produce a movie without use of spoken language. The movie I submitted is based on an old Japanese folklore that suggested in ages past and when times were hard, the old people in a village would volunteer to sacrifice their lives for the sake of the young. Usually, the oldest son would carry or escort their mother or father high into the winter mountains and leave them there to die.

Very happy to say this received first place in the TMU Without Words Contest.

The second in a series of short animated movies with attached learning materials to provide an introduction to the classic novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. This movie is based on the Letters from Captain Walton section that provides the introduction to the story. It covers a core curriculum need in literature classes to evaluate content presented in diverse media formats including visually and aurally. This product is an engaging way of reaching this standard.

The link below will take you to a PDF comic version of a part of the Letters section of the book.

Second in the Pocket History series. The incredible survival story of Ernest Shackleton and his 27 crew stranded on the Antarctic ice for 2 years after the crushing of their ship, Endurance. This video is based on journals from the expedition written at the time of the abandonment of the vessel, and takes the form of four diary entries outlining life in the Antarctic and being set adrift on the ice. It is intended for education purposes and is meant to supplement the reading of a book about the heroic adventure.

The silent version of this film took first place in the ‘Stars and Storms 2013’ silent movie competition.

A new series I am creating for students of ESL and or literature, introducing classic stories in a short machinima movie. They will mostly consist of key scenes from the book put into movie form and will occasionally introduce the author and the process which leads to the creation of the story.

This first one is Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and contains the story of the genesis of the book and one key scene from the movie. In this case the scene of the Monsters awakening.

The links below will take you to PDF comic versions of the Monster’s Awakening scene from the movie and also a part of Victor’s story..

Delighted to say this was a Jury nominated film at Machinima Expo 6

It’s November 5th and the night is full of fire and explosions, but no problems. This is the annual British event called ‘Bonfire Night’. So what’s the story behind the pyrotechnics? Well, we have to go back to the time of King James 1 in the 17th Century to find out.

A one minute action short. Played around with this action scene I’ve had on my computer for a while. Started off with an idea that didn’t go anywhere, a bit like the guy in this movie ; )

Danse Macabre

The inspiration for this comes from various sources, but there is a song from the ‘Death and the Maiden’ quartet by Franz Schubert I found particularly useful.

The Maiden:

Oh! leave me! Prithee, leave me! thou grisly man of bone!
For life is sweet, is pleasant.
Go! leave me now alone!
Go! leave me now alone!

Death:

Give me thy hand, oh! maiden fair to see,
For I’m a friend, hath ne’er distress’d thee.
Take courage now, and very soon
Within mine arms shalt softly rest thee!”

A Jury Nomination at the Machinima Expo 2011 🙂

Screened at FILE 2012 in Sao Paulo.

At the end of the last episode, John Utterson together with Inspector Newcombe and his police sergeant find a hidden corridor down to a horrifying basement room. The continuation of the story has Hyde chased around the seedier parts of London until …… well, why don’t you watch the movie and find out 😉

The muse’s lair of golden dreams,
is barred to mortal man it seems.
By a long and awful winding stair,
that leads at last to nowhere.

This has been sitting on my computer for ages. I started playing around with it when Moviestorms gizmo thingy came out. Since then I’ve tweaked and turned and added to it, but I don’t seem to have the inspiration to make it into a full blown movie…., hence the poem 😉

This movie received the honor of a great review on the Moviestorm News Blog.
